Sound Start - nursery and early primary music

The core of the School’s work is the weekly Music Centre where a variety of activities is available. Musicianship classes are held to develop aural and rhythmic skills and, as students progress, they can discover the fun and satisfaction to be gained from playing together in one of the School’s three orchestras or participating in ensemble playing.

Music Centre takes place on Tuesday afternoons and early evening in Fort William in Camaghael Hostel music area. We also offer weekly choir sessions in Strontian, Ballachulish and Fort William.

Individual instrument tuition is available from the School’s highly trained and dedicated staff. The Music School caters for players of all ages and abilities - we have pupils of seven and some of seventy. Several pupils have gone on to pursue careers in the music world, while others have been given the basis for a lifelong enjoyment of music-making for pleasure.

The Lochaber Music School at present offers tuition in: violin, viola, ’cello, clarsach and double bass. A limited number of instruments are available for hire. Students, if desired, can be entered for Associated Board or for Trinity examinations.
